Monterey Rehabilitation Center, Skilled Nursing & Memory Care

Grove City, Ohio, February 15th – After months of preparation that includes extensive specialty training of nurses, nursing assistants, dietary staff and therapists as well as changes to the physical plant, Monterey Rehabilitation Center, Skilled Nursing & Memory Care is ready to open its 10 bed in-patient Heart Health Center.

The opening festivities include a Heart Health education luncheon at 11am to those that RSVP, and a Ribbon Cutting open to the public scheduled for 12:30 on February 15th in front of the Heart Health Center. Community leaders from the City of Grove City and the Grove City Chamber of Commerce will be present to cut the ribbon and officially open the Heart Health Center. The community is welcome to join in, tour the center and enjoy heart healthy refreshments.

"The rehabilitation center is the only center solely focused on patients with heart health needs to assist them in achieving their highest level of "effective living" by maximizing cardiopulmonary function, providing education, promoting self-care management and compassionately addressing lifestyle modifications", states Tricia Zelenak, the Centers Market Development Specialist. Patients with chronic cardiac conditions and or a recent hospitalization for a cardiac surgery or event would be a strong candidate for the Heart Health Center.

Christie Hartlev, MacIntosh's Disease Management Clinical Coordinator, explains that each patient that enters the program will receive individualized care from a highly skilled cardiac team. Patients are met by a cardiac transition coach that will support them throughout their recovery stay. Patients are provided a journal that will allow them to be engaged in all areas of their recovery with the ultimate goal to self manage their heart disease. They will learn how to recognize when they are in trouble or over-exerting themselves, how to monitor their pulse, daily weight and administer their own medications in order to live independently.

Physical therapy plays a critical role in the recovery of a cardiac patient, as new restrictions or changing abilities affect endurance, strength and mobility. The Heart Health Center at Monterey offers a wide range of endurance, ambulation and repetitive therapies to help patients regain as much function as possible. Frequently, common routines such as bathing or doing laundry must be modified to accommodate the patient's cardiac capabilities. Monterey's occupational therapists work with patients to teach them new ways to handle daily tasks and maximize recovery.

Monterey Rehabilitation Center, Skilled Nursing & Memory Care, located at 3929 Hoover Road in Grove City, is one of five nursing and assisted living communities that are locally owned and operated by The MacIntosh Company. The cornerstone of the company is a sincere desire to treat people as we would want to be treated.
